The Sony Vaio S Series are powerful and impressive computing devices. This set of business laptops provides a wide selection of features to ensure that you have the ability to accomplish all of your work while you're on the go. The Vaio features a unique and stunning design with a powerful Intel Core processor. Furthermore, the connectivity options on the Vaio S Series provide a huge usability boost. However, this business laptop's battery life is terrible, and it could use some improvements in other areas.

The Vaio S Series is highly customizable to fit your needs, but the standard-issue model is impressive enough on its own. The device we reviewed has a large 15.5-inch display with a native 1920 x 1080 resolution – the best screen resolution of all the laptops in this category. The high resolution gives it a big edge over the competition in terms of display and graphical capabilities. This Sony laptop comes in three colors (white, silver and black) and features a textured exterior that gives it a unique appearance while hiding fingerprints and exterior surface scratches.

This business laptop has a wide assortment of features. Many of these are included as built-in software. Even though we are impressed with this laptop's large selection of tools and features, this computing device did not receive full marks, partially due to its lack of a 10-key number pad.

As we mentioned, the biggest issue with this business laptop is the battery life. The standard Sony Vaio S Series computer will hold a full charge for up to three hours and 45 minutes, which is less than any of the other devices we reviewed. It is possible to purchase an additional sheet-style battery that connects to the bottom of your device, and this add-on extends the battery life up to an additional 4 hours. This, however, does not excuse the very poor performance of the stock battery.

The Sony Vaio S Series features the Intel i5-3210M processor. This is a powerful processor that features speeds up to 2.5GHz. If you desire a more powerful processor, you can configure the laptop with the Intel i7-3632QM processor, which features speeds of up to 3.6GHz. The standard issue of the Sony Vaio S Series business laptop includes Intel HD Graphics, but you can upgrade to an Nvidia GeForce GT 640M graphics card with up to 2GB of video memory.

This business laptop comes with standard memory and storage options. The Sony Vaio S Series comes equipped with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. You can upgrade your device to house up to 12GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive. Alternatively, you can choose to upgrade to a solid-state drive. Sony offers SSD RAID configurations of up to 512GB. A RAID setup turns two or more hard disks into one logical disk, which is the type of disk you see displayed on your computer. When multiple drives are configured into a RAID, the computer reads them as one drive. We are pleased to see this option available on the Sony Vaio S Series.

One of the highlights of this business laptop is all of the connectivity options it offers. There is a variety of ports and connectivity options on most sides of this computer. There are two USB 3.0 ports located on this business laptop, along with one USB 2.0 port. These three ports are located on the right side of the device, along with a VGA port, an HDMI output, an SD memory card slot and a Memory Stick media slot. An optical drive and security lock slot are located on the left side of the device.

If any problems occur while you're using this business laptop, you can reach a customer service representative by email or telephone to obtain support. Additionally, a handful of online resources are available that provide further guidance and assistance. A support forum is available on the Sony website that allows you to get answers and feedback from other Sony users. You can also read the extensive FAQs, which provide answers to many of the common questions Sony customers have.

Sony VAIO S Summary:
7.1/10

The Sony Vaio S Series is an excellent business laptop for the right type of user. The feature set, quality design and variety of connectivity options and ports are all standout features of this computing device. However, there are a few areas where this laptop could improve, including a much longer battery life. The optional sheet battery is almost necessary to consider the Sony Vaio S Series as your business laptop of choice, unless you plan to stay near an outlet at all times.
