One of the standout features of this computing device is its attractive, durable and compact design. The HP EliteBook features an attractive metal design and platinum color finish. It is well built and durable. Its strong design can handle the wear and tear of constant traveling and placing it in and out of carrying cases or backpacks. It is not the smallest or the lightest laptop we reviewed, but it is still compact and weighs 4.56 pounds, making it not a huge burden to constantly carry with you throughout the day.
The HP EliteBook features a 14-inch display screen with 1366 x 768 resolution. The screen is sharp and bright, but if you want something a little more advanced, you can upgrade to the 1600 x 900 screen resolution. This business laptop also features a responsive touchpad with two-way scroll and two pick buttons. Unfortunately, there is no 10-key number pad available on this computer, which we felt is a drawback.
The HP Quick Web function, displayed just above the keyboard, provides quick web access when the EliteBook is turned off, which allows you to access your browser and browse the web, check email and access other utilities without having to boot-up Windows. In addition, a dependable webcam and a fingerprint sensor add to this HP laptop's list of remarkable features.
The EliteBook is outfitted to last the entire time you're away from the office, and it can run on a primary or secondary battery. This laptop can use 3-cell up to 9-cell batteries, but it is capable of an outstanding 32-hour battery life with the HP Ultra Extended Life Notebook Battery. You can set the fingerprint sensor below the keyboard to be required for login, offering another layer of protection. The business laptop HP provided for us to review was preloaded with an Intel Core i5 processor running at 2.5 GHz. Representing a step up from the ProBook line of HP laptops, the EliteBook model provides top-quality performance and endurance and uses Sandy Bridge second-generation Intel processor technology. The video card is standard Intel HD graphics, but you also have the option of discrete AMD Radeon HD graphics. In addition, the EliteBook also notably employs SRS premium sound to provide you with superior audio. The laptop's integrated speakers produce top-quality audio at surprisingly loud volumes.
The EliteBook we received from HP was equipped with 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. The ample memory and storage capacity provide you with security when running business software and managing all of your business documents. The EliteBook can keep up with any business or enterprise and provides exceptional, and essential, data storage.
You can configure the EliteBook 8460p upgrade bay with a secondary hard drive, an optical drive or a weight saver. The bottom panel of this notebook is designed for the easy upgrade of internal components.
HP does a superb job of providing connectivity options. The HP EliteBook is full of functional ports, including connections for USB 3.0, USB 2.0, eSATA and USB combo, VGA, DisplayPort, FireWire, modem, headphone and mic. You'll also find an AC power port, a docking connector and a secondary battery connector. This business laptop has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, as well as a port for a physical Ethernet cable. The EliteBook gives you advanced connection options but excludes a specific HDMI port to connect to a high-definition television. We would like to see this port included.
The EliteBook we reviewed also came with an SD card reader and a customary DVD optical drive, which can be upgraded to a Blu-ray reader/burner.
